Daddy's Day

The day my daughter was born, I knew that I was no longer going to be the only girl in my husband's life.  My heart burst with pride at the sight of my husband's love for our daughter.  Today, three years later, that love has only gotten stronger.  There is nothing more satisfying to me, more fulfilling to me, than watching my husband interact with our daughter, and so on Father's Day, I am happy to celebrate their love as a father and daughter, and thus our love as a family.

"First Lesson" by Philip Booth
Lie back daughter, let your head
be tipped back in the cup of my hand.
Gently, and I will hold you. Spread
your arms wide, lie out on the stream
and look high at the gulls. A dead-
man's float is face down. You will dive
and swim soon enough where this tidewater
ebbs to the sea. Daughter, believe
me, when you tire on the long thrash
to your island, lie up, and survive.
As you float now, where I held you
and let go, remember when fear
cramps your heart what I told you:
lie gently and wide to the light-year
stars, lie back, and the sea will hold you.

Happy Father's Day, Daddy! Thank you for being such a wonderful daddy to our little girl!  XXOO
